Researching Other M4L Devices
Now that I decided in the concept and functionality of my device, I think it’s time to research into other M4L devices that use granular synthesis or generative practice. By looking into these other devices I can see what I would like to add to such devices, and what could make my device distinct from the others.
Right now before getting deep into research of the device, I would like to make a hypothesis of what will I find out from other devices and more specifically what I will include in my device. My hypothesis is the following: because the concept of my project deals with divination and the purpose of the device is to output useable sound samples, of different and a wide variety of sonic timbre, my device will be a collage of functionalities of other devices that I like. The functionalities though have to be both appealing to my sonic taste and resonate with my concept of Pajarito De La Suerte. I’m referring to this approach as a hypothesis because I think its the most probable result of my investigation, but it also means that there is a possibility that in my research will deviate from the collage approach. As all of this project practice is driven technically, I’m bound to an extend to the possibilities or idiosyncrasies of the technology I’ll use, making my creative approach sensitive to the technicality I’ll discover. Being susceptible of achieving another result in my research, different from my hypothesis.
I will look into three devices that use granular synthesis and generative functionality, and extract my favourite aspects of them, manipulating them at my taste.
